Out of tune

As many of you are aware, my darling wife bought me a guitar a couple of years ago and last fall I started taking lessons at the local Adult Ed center. I learned alot about music theory and how to play chords and single notes. The one thing the instructor told us we needed to do is Practice, Practice, Practice! I can make every excuse you want to hear, just ask me. Too tired, no time left in the day, don't want to keep you up and the list continues.

Tonight I thought it would be great to practice a little just to see how out of touch I really am. My Brother In the Lord, Tom has an amazing gift of being able to play the guitar and he inspires me to want to do better at playing. As I picked up my instrument, I realized that it was out of tune because I hadn't touched it in a while. It only took a few minutes and it was tuned and the notes and chords being plucked were harmonious. Just because the instrument was in tune doesn't mean that I am able to play it and make it sound like a professional, I still need to practice, to make my fingertips calloused and my fingers nimble enough to reach each string to make the sound that it's supposed to be.

It's so very like this in our walk with the Lord. We get so "out of tune" when we let sin enter into our lives. The Lord doesn't move, we disregard Him by not praying, not reading His word or not fellowshipping with other Christians. The guitar doesn't move, I just choose to ignore it. The Bible says in 1 John 1:9 " If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.". It only takes a few moments to get "back in tune" with God. By reading, praying or fellowshipping we regain that sharpness in our walk.

We all need to keep practicing and realize we fall down and mess up once in a while. Remember we're not perfect, but Jesus Christ makes us perfect in His righteousness.

God bless

This is the day

Psalm 118:24 shouts .. "This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

I don't know where you are today or what events you might be facing or even if you believe that God is able to take care of the smallest thing for you.  I can tell you that the peace that can come from even just that tiny sentence will overwhelm your world....if you'll let it.  The world comes at us in 1000 different directions, stop today and rejoice!!  REJOICE!!

The Beginning...

So upon request by my friends and my beautiful wife, I have started my own blog. The ultimate goal of this blog will be to give God the glory for all that he has done in my life. Some days I might ramble on, others perhaps a Bible verse and then others might be a word that has encouraged me in my daily walk. I intend to use this as a medium to keep myself on track to the ONE who is Faithful.

Today's quote - "The Holy Scriptures are the lifeline God throws us in order to ensure that He and we stay connected while the rescue is in progress." J.I. Packer
